What a glorious day for our first game of the 2019 season! The sun was shining, the green was fresh, if a little unpredictable, and everyone was in high spirits.

There was only one cloud on our horizon, but I’ll tell you about that later! The game was an annual friendly fixture against old, and some young, friends from Fry’s Bowls Club. As is usually the case with the first game of the season, Norwest had a surplus of players, so alongside the four match rinks we had eight Norwesters going head-to-head, and we even lent Mary to Fry’s for the afternoon, as they were one short.

I was part of the Norwest ‘clash’, and the atmosphere on our rink was one of great enjoyment, much banter and lots of laughter, in comparison to the more serious business going on over the other rinks. We were treated to a high tea after the game courtesy of Lin and Paul. Thanks to you both, and also to our barmen, Pat and Mark – all of you did a great job. And what about the cloud? Well, that was the score, with Fry’s trouncing us with 88 shots to our 54!

Now, a reminder for all those who will be climbing aboard our charabanc next Monday for our annual tour. This year, we are off to Eastbourne, where hopefully we will be enjoying lots of sunshine and some great bowls. So get out those buckets and spades, polish up the sunglasses and get the sun cream packed!
