This has been a poignant week for Norwesters as they said their goodbyes to Mike, our dear friend and President, at his funeral on Thursday. Mike has been a mainstay of Norwest for many years, and we’re going to be lost without him.
Our Ladies started the week off by welcoming the Ladies of Paulton to our green for a Wild League game on Tuesday, and although they lost, they did manage to get two points of the twelve on offer. Their NSL game on Thursday was cancelled and will be re-arranged.
It’s been a week of mixed results for our menfolk: on Wednesday evening, they popped up the road to Fosseway for a MSL game. It was a somewhat damp evening, but that couldn’t put a damper on our lads as they came away with a sixteen-point victory.
In the National Two Fours competition, our A Team beat St Andrews to go into the next round, where they will meet local rivals, Purnell. Good luck, lads – knowing Purnell, I’m sure it will be a tough game. Unfortunately, our B Team lost their game against Yatton, so are now out of the competition.
The lads finished off their week on Saturday when they played a friendly, away to Winscombe. I’m not sure if Winscombe quite understand the term, friendly, as they beat our lads hands down!
We had two mixed games on the card for this week: the first an MMSL game against our old friends from Stothert and Pitt. It was an extremely tight game, but Norwest won 9-3 by only one shot.
The second mixed game was cancelled, as Wilton could not raise a team, but not to be deterred, twelve of our members met up for a friendly game against each other and despite the weather being once again rather damp, we had a really super, fun afternoon and a scrumptious tea afterwards.
Lastly, I have a message from Mary. She will soon be placing an order for club shirts and jackets, so if you want anything, please can you let her know this week.
