It’s that time of year when the outdoor bowls season has finished, and unless you play bowls indoors during the winter, there is not much going on in the bowls world, so I thought maybe I’d sit back, put my feet up and have a week off!
Perfect, except then I got to thinking, are the rest of the members doing the same? Well, maybe some are, but there are quite a few who will still be up there with their sleeves rolled up, beavering away to keep the clubhouse, changing rooms and grounds in tip-top condition and carefully tending the green while it rests for the winter.
It’s been a tough year for them, as they had to deal with the aftermath of the break-ins which we suffered at the beginning of the season, and they also lost one of their mainstays, Mike, who died earlier in the year. So, perhaps it’s fitting that we say a big thank you to our lads.
I’m not going to mention them all by name, as I’d be bound to miss one and then I’d be in big trouble, but they know who they are. So, pat yourselves on the back, lads – we do appreciate all you do, it’s just that maybe we don’t say thank you often enough!
Just a quick reminder: the Ladies’ meeting is this Saturday, 12th October at 2.30 p.m., and our lads’ meeting is this Sunday, 13th at 10.30 a.m. Make sure you’re there. It’s your club so come and have a say in what goes on.
