There’s been very little to report on behalf of Norwest recently, so I took the liberty of having a couple of weeks off, but, with just over four weeks to go until the new season starts, it’s time to get back into the swing of things.

I know the maintenance teams who work on the clubhouse, green and garden have been busy throughout the winter months, but with things coming to a head, they are really putting in an extra effort to get things spick and span for our open evenings which start on April 11th when we will hopefully welcome lots of new members to Norwest. So, huge thanks to you all and keep up the good work. Thanks also to the bar staff who man the pumps for the skittles, crib and social events during the winter. We have two resident crib teams who play in the Radstock and District Cribbage league and three skittle teams who play in the Paulton and District skittle league. This year, the various teams’ fortunes have been mixed, but congratulations go to the Roughedges for their fantastic win last week against the top team in the league. They had an average score of 46.5, scores of which I can only dream about!

Now for some important dates: the ladies spring meeting is on Saturday, 12th March at 2.30 p.m. We hope to see all our ladies at the meeting and if there are any ladies out there who think they would like to have a go at lawn bowls this summer, you’re more than welcome to join us. It’s an informal meeting which starts with a bit of business and ends with tea, cake and a good old natter.

Thanks to Keith and Dennis, our winter fish and chip skittles have been a great success again this year, thanks lads you do a great job. To round off the season, the knock out cup will be played on Friday, 18th March: the two semi-finals will be played first starting at 7.30 p.m. and the final will be played at 9 p.m.

I hope you’ve all been saving hard for this, the last date for your diary, as Mary will be after our money! Yes, it’s subs evening, which will be held on Saturday, 19th March at 7.30 p.m.
