Were you a keen footballer in your youth? Maybe it was rugby, cricket or any of the numerous sporting activities we all enjoy when we are younger. What about now though? Now that age has crept up on you and running isn’t that easy anymore.
Do you just potter around the house and watch the telly all day? Boring isn’t it. Well, maybe I’ve got just the thing to get you out of that rut. Have you ever thought about lawn bowls? I can hear you all groaning, saying: “But I’m not that old yet,” but I’ll let you into a closely guarded secret – lawn bowls is not just for old people. If you watch the indoor championships, which I’m sure you do with all that time on your hands, you’ll know that most of the silverware goes to the younger bowlers. So, what about you then? Would you like to give it a try? Well now’s your chance, on Monday, 11th, Tuesday, 12th, Wednesday, 13th and Thursday, 14th April, 6 p.m. until dusk, Norwest Bowls Club will be holding Open Evenings when we’d love you to come along and see what you’ve been missing. All you have to do is turn up with some flat shoes on, we’ll lend you some bowls and you can have a go. It’s as easy as that! Norwest is a small, friendly club, where newcomers are always welcome. If you’re not sure, but would like to know more just come along, have a drink and a chat to one of our members. We’ll even let you have a go if you’re one of the younger set, but don’t spread it to all your friends or we oldies will never get a look in.
Although our Easter Egg-stravaganza on Saturday saw us with fewer teams than we would normally expect, it seemed to be a case of quality rather than quantity judging by the excellent scores. There was much hilarity from players on the active games and much scratching of heads over the question sheets, but all in all the evening seemed to be enjoyed by everyone. Once again, the table groaned under the weight of the various delicacies supplied for our American supper, so thanks to all who provided food and raffle prizes. After a nail biting tie break, team AKA, consisting of Ann and Ken Woodham, with Anne Wilkinson, were just pipped at the post by The Bath Bums, Anna and Dennis Albutt and Karen and Martin Jones. The winners of the coveted wooden spoons were Eileen Brown, John Reynolds and Maureen and Gerry Burdall of the Ink Spots team. Thanks to everyone who helped make the evening such a success, especially to Ann Frisby, our marker extraordinaire!
Lastly, just one reminder, Wednesday, 6th April, 10 a.m.– 12 noon, is spring cleaning day at Norwest. Anyone who can lend a hand will be very welcome, just pop along with your mop and bucket or feather duster and we’ll find you a job!
