Well, where did it go? Yes, Christmas came and went once again in a flash. Did you get what you wanted from Santa or have you got a plentiful supply of raffle prizes set aside waiting for the coming bowls season? Once again, my fur coat and diamond ring failed to materialise, but, even so, I was a very lucky girl, even if my pressies were of a more practical nature.
So what of the old year? Well, overall, I think 2016 was a fairly good year for Norwest, and although we were sorry to lose a few bowlers through ill health, we were very lucky in that we had several new members join us.
Our tour to Weymouth, back in May, was one of the best so far, with beautiful weather and some great bowls. Both Captains’ Day and Presidents’ Day were very well supported and great fun. The sun shone on us for our annual Fun Day, and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy it.
Although the Ladies
didn’t fare too well in their league competitions, mainly through lack of players, they had a very enjoyable time and with several new Ladies, things are looking really good for the 2017 season.
What about our Men? Well, what can I say? They did brilliantly, with the B team gaining promotion, while the A team were only just pipped at the post for promotion on the last game. Great going, lads, and with you both in the same league, it looks as if 2017 is going to be a very interesting season.
And now on behalf of myself and Norwest, I’d like to say a great big THANK YOU to Becky and all the staff at The Journal for the great job they do for us throughout the year. Our members and friends obviously read our bit avidly, as I can tell by the comments I get when something is wrong. So, thanks once again to all at The Journal. Keep up the good work, please.
And finally may I take this opportunity, once again on behalf of myself and
Norwest Bowls Club, to wish all members, fellow bowlers and friends a very Happy and healthy New Year. NH
