We got off to a brilliant and busy start this week when our 101 competition started on Monday evening. It’s always a fun competition, especially when it comes to working out the scores!

It’s very different – with the shot scoring four, the second wood three, the third wood two and the fourth wood one, and the winners are the team who get to the magic total of 101. Teams are drawn out of the hat, which just adds to the fun: the competition runs for several weeks and the top two male and female scorers will meet for the Final later in the season.

On Tuesday, our Ladies made a return visit to Bloomfield, where they completed the North Somerset League game which was interrupted due to a flooded green a couple of weeks ago. Although Norwest were leading when the game was abandoned, the tables turned and Bloomfield claimed the game, beating us 6–4, but by only two shots.

On Wednesday, it was the turn of the Boys, who were at home for their Mid-Somerset League game against Prattens. It was a super game with a great atmosphere, but once again, Norwest lost; 4–12 this time and by eight shots.

Back to the Girls on Thursday, and away to Keynsham: it was a beautiful afternoon and a thoroughly enjoyable game, but yes, again we lost, scoring only two of the ten points on offer, and again by only eight shots.

After a rainy start to Friday, the sun made an appearance in time for our evening MMSL game at Stothert and Pitt. It was a great game, and even if the green was very challenging, it was nice to play against so many old friends. Staying on trend, we lost 2–10.

While we were away enjoying ourselves at Stotherts, two of our Men were being much more serious: they were playing their National Singles games. Aaron Delamont was at home playing Jim Towells from Purnell. It was a hard-fought game and nip and tuck throughout, but with a one-shot difference, Aaron finally won through to the next round. Well done Aaron, fingers crossed for the next round. Commiserations go to Dave Hill, who played Dave Beard away at Paulton. Never mind, Dave, there’s always next year.

At last, after so many losses, the tables turned and the weekend brought wins in both Saturday and Sunday’s games. The Men’s game on Saturday was a Friendly, played at Norwest against Weston Bath and our chaps won by eighteen shots. On Sunday, our bowlers ventured forth to Melksham for yet another friendly, which saw Norwest claim a thirteen-shot victory.

So come on, Norwesters, let’s start the new week continuing our winning streak.
