The New Year was welcomed in with gusto, if a little early, on December 28th, when the Bath 18+ Gateway Club held their annual New Year Party at Norwest Bowls Club.
Members of both Bath 18+ Gateway Club and Norwest Bowls Club enjoyed a super buffet, after which they danced the night away to music supplied by our DJ, Paul. Thanks Paul, great job as usual. The high spot of the evening came when the members of the Floodlight Charity Bowls
Committee presented a cheque for £2,000 to the Bath 18+ Gateway Club, their chosen charity for 2015.
Jane Watmough, Bath 18+ Gateway Club Chair, offered thanks for the donation and said that as a small club who struggle with funding due to the present economic situation, the money would be a fantastic help. Grateful thanks were given to Norwest bowlers, Mark Kite, who raised sponsorship money by competing in the Bath Half Marathon and Brian Holmes, who did a sponsored walk, both of which boosted the total considerably.
The chimes of Big Ben rang out at 10.30 a.m. and were followed by a rousing rendition of ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
Overall, it was a brilliant evening much enjoyed by all who attended, as usual, thanks to all who provided food and raffle prizes or helped in any way, especially to DJ Paul and barman Brian, great job lads – and the best bit was everyone had the chance to celebrate the New Year all over again a few days later!
Let’s hope that 2016 will be a brilliant year for everyone and on behalf of Norwest Bowls Club and myself, I’d like to wish all members, friends and fellow bowlers a very happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.
