Sunday saw our members gather at Norwest Bowls Club for the high spot of the year – our Annual General Meeting!

We had a good turnout, especially considering the meeting clashed with the County presentations, where there were two trophies with Norwest’s name on to be collected.

Our meeting started with a minute’s silence in memory of Maggie, who was Club Secretary and our Ladies’ Captain, Anne Wilkinson, who recently passed away.

We then went on to the business of the day, which was relatively painless, especially when Mary announced that there would be no increase in our annual subs. Overall, it would seem that the last year was a fairly good one for Norwest, with things running smoothly.

With the changeover of Club officials came the sad moment when Mike Briggs handed over the reins of the Men’s captaincy, which he had held very competently for the last seven years, to Paul Hill.

We won’t be losing Mike though, as he has now taken on the slightly less demanding role of Vice President and of course, he will still be keeping a watchful eye on our green. Thanks Mike for all your hard work, you’ll be a tough act to follow. The meeting proceeded with President Eddie and the rest of the committee standing down and the ‘new batch’ taking over. Thanks Eddie, you did a good job and with the chain of office firmly around Mary’s neck, we are now looking forward to the 2018 season. May it be a sunny and successful one.

And so to the County presentation: we granted Aaron Delamont and a couple of our lads leave from the AGM to attend the County presentation, and it was a proud day for Norwest as we had two awards to collect. Firstly, the trophy for Aaron, who won the County Unbadged competition, and secondly, we picked up the award for runners-up in the Wedmore Plate competition. Well done to all our lads, especially Aaron, you did us proud!

Now, for all of those who wish to say their last goodbyes to Anne: the funeral will be held at Haycombe Crematorium on Wednesday, 15th November at 1 p.m. and afterwards at Norwest. There will be family flowers only, with any donations you may wish to give, in memory of Anne, going to Dorothy House.
