The weather was the only winner on Tuesday afternoon, as Prattens’ ladies’ Wild League game, against local rivals, Paulton, had to be re-arranged due to heavy rain. On Thursday afternoon, the ladies travelled to Keynsham for a friendly and, in contrast to Tuesday, the weather was warm and sunny! Prattens’ ladies won on all three rinks, the overall score was 64 shots to 23.

On Friday evening, a mixed team from Prattens travelled to Street for a Mixed Mid-Somerset League game. Prattens won on one rink, but lost on two and so lost overall. Prattens gain two league points, Street gain ten.

The men’s team were away to local rivals, Norwest on Saturday afternoon in the Somerset County League. Prattens won on one rink, but lost on the other two rinks; the overall result was Prattens 55 shots, Norwest 63, which means Prattens gain 2 league points whilst Norwest gain ten.

There were two Sunday fixtures, in the morning, Prattens’ men played local rivals, Purnell in the Top Club National Competition. This involves five bowling disciplines, but unfortunately, Prattens lost by four disciplines to one; the winning discipline was in the two wood singles, where Graham Whittock, of Prattens, beat Jim Jones, of Purnell. In the afternoon, a mixed team travelled to Broughton Gifford in a friendly, but again, Prattens lost, the overall score being Prattens, 68 shots, Broughton Gifford, 91 shots.

Fixtures in the coming week will see the ladies play two friendly games; at Home to Alexandra Park (Bath) on Tuesday and Wedmore on Thursday. Prattens’ men have a Somerset County League game Away to Knowle on Saturday and there is a Mixed Mid-Somerset League game at Home to Castle Cary on Friday evening. The week’s fixtures conclude on Sunday, with two games, a mixed team from Prattens play Bristol in the first round of the Tony Alcock Over 60 two-rink National Competition in the morning and there is a mixed friendly game away to Banwell in the afternoon.

Don’t forget that Prattens hold regular club nights on Mondays at 6 p.m. All are welcome to come along and try the game of bowls, just wear flat shoes.
