Prattens’ Ladies played the first round of the Southey Trophy against Alexandra Park (Bath) on Sunday. This game involves four bowling disciplines (singles, pairs, triples and rinks).

The game was won by Prattens 74 shots to 71. In the next round, the ladies play either Bloomfield (Bath) or Bath Ladies Bowling Club.

In the Somerset County Triples competition, Pauline Dando, Jill Hanks and Chris Love took their quarter final game to the last end, with the prospect of an extra end looming to decide the game. On the last end, Prattens’ Ladies were holding shot to draw the game and invoke the tie-break end only for the Yeovil skip to take shot and the game with her last wood; Prattens lost by three shots. Congratulations to Pauline, Jill and Chris on reaching the semi finals which was a great achievement.

On Tuesday, Prattens’ Ladies played local rivals, Purnell, in a Wild League game, which was shortened due to the hot weather, unfortunately, Prattens lost on all three rinks. In the first round of the Fear Cup, Prattens’ Ladies played Bath Ladies Bowling Club; Prattens won one rink, but lost on two and overall shot difference. As this was the first round, Prattens will be entered into the Fear Plate, where they will play Chew Stoke in the first round.

In the Mid-Somerset League game on Wednesday, Prattens’ Men played Paulton, Prattens won on two rinks and lost on two, but lost overall 52 shots to 65.5 after the regulatory 25% reduction in the Paulton score, as they were one player short. Prattens gained four League points from this game. On Saturday, Prattens’ Men played Purnell B in a Somerset County League game. Prattens won on one rink, but lost on two, losing overall 53 shots to 69; Prattens gained two League points from this game.

Club nights continue on Mondays at 6 p.m. All are welcome to come along and try the game of bowls, just wear flat shoes. Bowls can be borrowed and coaching is available free of charge.
