In the Wild League, there were mixed results for Prattens’ Ladies. Away to Norwest, it was a very close game overall, but Prattens won on one rink, lost on two and lost overall by 46 shots to 48, which gained them two out of twelve League points.
Prattens’ Men played Purnells in the Mid-Somerset League and won on two rinks, lost on two and lost overall by 58 shots to 69, gaining four League points. In the Somerset County League, Prattens played Bloomfield, where they won on two rinks, drew on one and won overall by 80 shots to 61, gaining eleven League points.
On Friday evening, Club members, family and friends held a barbeque at the Clubhouse. Everyone enjoyed the evening, there were opportunities for the children and grandchildren to have a go at games, plus tombola, a treasure hunt and quoits. A prize was awarded to the child and adult with the highest score on the quoits. It was a very successful evening which raised valuable funds for the Club. Thanks go to everyone who helped out, cooked the food and manned the stalls.
The sun shone at Sidmouth for our annual Bowls Away Day. Our friends at Sidmouth were very welcoming and we all enjoyed the camaraderie on the green and afterwards in the Clubhouse. On the way back, we stopped for a meal, before returning to the Midsomer Norton area. Our thanks go to Barrie and Pauline Dando for organising the day, to Margaret Harvey our Fixture Secretary, for liaising with Sidmouth and to Graham Whittock for organising the meal.
In the coming week, Prattens’ Ladies have a Wild League game at home to Purnells and the first round of the Southey Trophy at home to Bath Ladies Bowling Club. Prattens’ Men have a Turnbull Cup match away to Bath Bowling Club, a home game against Fosseway in the Mid Somerset League and another home game against Stothert & Pitt B, in the Somerset County League. Next Sunday is our Club triples competition.
Club nights continue on Mondays at 6 p.m. All are welcome to come along and try the game of bowls, just wear flat shoes. Bowls can be borrowed and coaching is available free of charge.
