History was made for Purnell Bowls Club last Sunday, when the triple of Terry Priddle, John Mathews and Steve Amor won the County Final at Taunton against Bristol.
It was a tight game all the way – the Purnell lads going into the last end just one shot in front, Skip Amor managed another shot and the game was won by just two shots.
This is the first time in the club’s history that it has County Champions, and it is on the back of two tremendous years by the men of the club.
After getting promotion as champions of Premier Two to the Somerset Premier Division last year, the A team finished in fifth place this season.
The B team were champions last year of East Division Two – without losing a game this season, they were runners-up in East One.
The C team won five and lost five in East Two, finishing in the highest position since joining the league.
It was thirty years ago when Purnell Men won the Mid-Somerset Cup, and again, another milestone this season – they won it again.
Earlier in the day last Sunday, Terry Priddle lost in the County Unbadged Final 21-17 to local lad from Norwest, Arron Delamont, who played very well.
There is still time to enrol to play in the winter league on Purnell’s superb indoor rinks. If you are new to bowls, just turn up – there will be someone who will help you try the game.
The Floodlight Charity games are still in full swing, with the final at Norwest taking place on Thursday, 14th September at 6.15 p.m.
Purnell Bowls Club would like to thank all their neighbours for their understanding with the using of their lights to raise much-needed funds for the chosen charities this year.
