It’s been all change at Purnell Bowls Club over the past two weeks, with the finish of the indoor season and the start of the outdoor season.
The indoor season has been a success this past winter, with the completion of all leagues, despite the interruptions because of lack of access to the club caused by the inclement weather.
With 37 new members this year, we are pleased they have fitted in well and have gradually integrated into the league system. So, we look forward to them taking a full part when the next season starts in September.
Despite the lateness of spring, the outdoor season started on time two weeks ago, and already the male members have been involved in several games. However, some of the members were unavailable as they, along with a number of members from other local clubs, joined the Purnell Tourists for a two-week break in Calpe on the Costa Blanca, Spain, organised by Don Dart, where as well as playing a number of matches, they enjoyed some decent weather.
The Men’s programme has got underway with three friendly games with wins against Knowle and Stothert and Pitt, but they were unable to continue the winning start, losing to Bath. Men’s Captain, John Matthews, however, reports some excellent early-season bowling. The Ladies, meanwhile, start their programme next week.
Although the new outdoor season is getting into full swing, there are still opportunities for anyone wishing to try lawn bowls for the first time, with our first-class team of coaches on-hand to assist.
