Last Thursday, the Purnell lads rounded off a great season by winning their fourth trophy when they lifted the Floodlight Charity Paulton Builders Supply Cup by beating last year’s winners, Frome.

Although the 4–1 score on rinks looks like a runaway victory, it was anything but, with three rinks being very close at the end – the Frome team had to thank Mike Gulliford for their only winning rink.

As usual, for the games at the end of the season, there was plenty of good natured banter, with Mike (Nipper) Pratt leading the way for Purnell, he certainly got back as good as he gave from the Frome boys.

All the players sat down to hot food after the game put on by the Purnell Ladies, which was very well received as the nights get colder!

Charity Committee member, Bryn Hawkins, thanked everyone who had taken part, all the helpers organising food, bar and raffles at Frome Selwood, Norwest and Purnell in this very enjoyable end-of-season competition, and informed the gathering in this eleventh year of running that it has raised over £27,000 for local good causes.

Eric Obern (Norwest), Fixture Secretary for the committee, presented the Cup to Bryn Hawkins, Purnell Captain, and Den Skehan, Purnell Vice-Captain.

It was the final weekly Friday night social last week. During the winter they will be held once a month on the first Friday of the month starting from

October 7th.

November and December will see the return of some great singers to the social nights, so members and friends come along and dance the night away!

It was the first week of the indoors this week, with already some keen competition amongst the teams. If there is anyone who would like to have a go at bowls, now is the time. Ring Don on: 01761 471019 or John: 01761 415957 to arrange a time to suit. Everything is found, just wear flat shoes or trainers.
