After what has been the most successful season in the history of Purnell Bowls Club’s Men’s team, a Celebration Evening was needed!
Bryn Hawkins, President/Captain, thanked all the players for making the season an easy one. Bryn presented John Mathews, Mike Pratt and Steve Amor with their Cup and Individual trophies for being finalists in the Somerset County Triples Competition. Chairman, Don Dart, thanked everyone who organised what had proved to be a very successful event. After the meal, the gathering went outside to toast the new flagpole constructed by Mel Bowen.
The array of cups that had been won by the Men in 2016 was in full view throughout the evening – there was a sense of pride amongst us all.
The following evening was the Annual Christmas Draw and rollover bingo night. With a packed clubhouse, most would have thought that someone in attendance would win the £100 full house prize, unfortunately, Dave Chamberlain won the house money – two numbers outside the rollover number, (bad luck Dave).
The excitement continued to mount as the 60+ prize numbers were drawn, most had been donated by the club members. Amongst the winners were Bob White, £50 Tesco voucher, Tim/Gerald Chivers, £10 Tesco voucher, with the big prize of the night, a year’s membership, going to Trevor Gardiner.
