What a great achievement by Purnell Men’s B team, as they clinched the Somerset County Bowls East Two league title last Saturday, beating Stotherts away 12–0 with a game to spare, this is against second-placed Norwest, who they play in the last game of the season next week.
The B team lads are the only unbeaten team in the whole of the Somerset league of 103 teams, with the A team 21 points ahead of their nearest rivals, Clevedon Prom, in Premier Two. With just three games to go, things are looking good on the playing side at Purnell Bowls Club, having already won their Mid-Somerset League.
It was not a good night for Purnell in the Turnball Club at Bath, the home team adapted to the wet conditions much better, and although two of the visitors’ rinks won, the other two lost badly, losing the match by 23 shots.
Unfortunately, Purnell Ladies in the Fear Cup could not reverse the result they had away to Fosseway in the league, and lost again, winning on just one rink, but by not enough shots to win the game.
Saturday morning coaching at Purnells for anyone who would like to try the game of bowls will continue throughout the school holidays for all ages – just turn up, even if wet, because the game can be taken inside, all equipment found, just wear trainers, coaching starts at 9.30 a.m.
