I think the fairies have been busily working away at Norwest Bowls Club recently, and what an incredible job they have done.

Gone are the weeds and general garden rubbish around the front of the clubhouse, and in its place we have a neat and tidy landscaped garden, beautifully edged with stones and showing promise of the spring to come. It’s an amazing transformation for which we need to say a big ‘thank you’, no, not to the fairies, but to a few of our Norwest men. I’d love to give you all a name check, but I’d more than likely miss someone out and then I’d be in trouble – so I’ll just say, you’ve done a great job, lads, so give yourselves a big pat on the back.

And now, for some more unsung heroes. The work continues throughout the winter at Norwest, with decorating and odd jobs which are necessary to keep the clubhouse in order, and while we don’t use the green in winter, it doesn’t mean that it’s just forgotten. There are all kinds of mysterious things that need doing to keep it in order.

Then, of course, there are the office staff, finance department and general dogsbodies who deal with the general running of the club, and last but not least – the bar staff, who keep our ‘spirits’ up by turning out on cold winter evenings to spread cheer among our resident skittle and cribbage teams. Once again, no names mentioned, but if you are one of our unsung heroes, please accept this great big thank you from Norwest.

A quick reminder: the Subs evening is on Saturday, 17th March at 7.30 p.m., when Mary will be after the money for both your Subs and the tour. I hope your piggy banks can take the strain.
