CARRYING on from his gold medal win at the recent Bristol Boxing Cup, Norton Radstock ABC’s Shayne Smith took home a silver medal from his first Barum Box Cup.
Shayne deserved all the accolades he got from the various coaches of other clubs.
Shayne was up against a more experienced skilful lad of 18 bouts from Sporting Ring ABC but he stuck to the task and gave it a mighty go, pushing his opponent through the three rounds.
“It was unfortunate he lost on points and walked away with the silver but he gained lots of respect and experience and will only get better over time with more hard work in the gym. He’s also says his next box cup at the end of October will end with a gold medal” said his proud coach
There was a mixed bag of results for the three other boys from the club, all having their first bouts. Ollie Brown was up first on Saturday night getting a great start to his amateur career with a first round stoppage. From the first bell Ollie was on the front foot being the aggressor towards his 6ft 4’ opponent from Bodysnatchers ABC.
The following day the club were at the Trowbridge show with Harry Tutchell and Louis Billett boxing for the first time. Both lads put in outstanding efforts only to be defeated on points. Harry was first up boxing a lad from Jurassic ABC. All three rounds proved entertaining as the taller Harry set about boxing his stronger, slightly smaller opponent from distance. Each round was closely fought ending with Harry losing a split decision.
To end a busy weekend was Louis Billet. Boxing against a Frome ABC opponent Jobey Hughes., Louis boxed really well but lost on points but showed the noisy crowd in attendance that he belongs in a boxing ring.
