CAMERTON and Peasedown’s Golf Croquet Handicap ‘A’ team, which was captained by Marion Button, played their last league game of 2026 in early August.

This league had been closely contested all summer and the team from Bath CC arrived at the club in Peasedown with their sights set on a win and thereby gaining the top spot in the competition.

The first three rounds were, as predicted, very close. In the morning doubles Simon Munton (CPCC) had amazed the Bath hopefuls with a long-distance jump shot and, at lunch, Camerton and Peasedown were ahead by 7 games to 5. With the morning session of 12 games closely contested the afternoon session of eight games was going to be critical.

In fact, the result went down to the wire. Half way through the final round Camerton and Peasedown had reached the magic total of 10 games won to ensure a draw and it was then, in the very last rubber, that Patrick Knight produced an ‘I will not give up’ performance to carry the team to an 11 games to 9 win .

This league now stands at 11 points each to Camerton and Peasedown CC, Bath CC and Nailsea CC and the league winners, who will go directly to a South West semi-final, will be decided on a percentage won/lost basis.

In recognition of it being the last match of the 2026 season all the members of the ‘A’ team contributed; Marion Button (Captain), Jill Shaw, Phil Hendy, Simon Munton, Ann Munton, Patrick Knight and Jill Parker.

Undoubtedly, the main talking point of this summer has been the very hot weather which has obviously had an effect on matches. Unfortunately, it has been too hot on some days. . .
