SOMERSET Disabled Cricket Club have reached the national semi-finals of the ECB South West D40 League in only their second season, following an outstanding campaign.

Somerset have won all but one of their fixtures, to secure a semi-final place where face Yorkshire at Kidderminster.

The achievement represents a significant milestone for the club with the D40 team now firmly establishing itself within the national disability cricket programme.

There have been a number of impressive individual performances throughout. Young debutant Oli leads the run-scorers with 179 runs and has enjoyed an excellent season, averaging 59 runs per innings and striking at 117. Jacob is also batting excellently and has contributed an outstanding 132 runs. With the ball, another young player, Joe, is shining and taken 12 wickets from 27 overs, 11 of which have been maidens, with a best bowling figures 4 for 8.

While the statistics highlight the individual performances, the semi-final place is a reflection of the collective effort behind the team. Players, parents, carers, coaches and volunteers have all played an important role, helping create an environment in which players can develop their cricket and compete at a national level.

For Somerset Disabled CC, reaching the semi-final in only their second season represents a tremendous achievement and provides an exciting opportunity to take another step forward.

The Somerset Cricket Foundation continues to deliver a wide-ranging disability cricket programme, supporting young people from the age of 12 upwards and providing opportunities for people with disabilities to participate, develop and compete in cricket.
