TIM Lammonby is one of the reasons why Somerset are enjoying success in the 2026 Metro Bank One Day Cup.

In his first three innings, the 26 year old left handed batter scored 260 runs at an average of 86.66 which enabled the Cidermen to win two of their first three games

Lammonby hails from Exeter and joined the Somerset Academy in 2015, going onto make his T20 debut in 2019 and his first class debut the following year.

What does Tom put his good form so far in the competition down to? “I think a bit of it would probably be down to hunger. I’ve had a very up and down year with injuries and not being able to perform to the level that I want, so I think a bit of it is hunger and a bit of it is fight from missing a large part of the season due to injury.

“I want to make up for lost time and so far that’s paying dividends. I’m just trying to do the basics for as long as possible and control impulses that sometimes get thrown around in there. I just want to help the team because being sat on the sidelines has been really frustrating.”

Does the 2026 squad have what it takes to do well in the competition? “I think so. I definitely think we’ve got the talent, and we’ve shown over the last few games that we can beat some good teams. We know we can do it; we just need to be smart in the decisive and defining moments because that’s what will determine the outcome of games.”

Somerset’s next home match in the Metro Bank One Day Cup is on Friday, August 7, when they take on Surrey at the Cooper Associates County Ground, starting at 2pm..
