MIDSOMER Norton Methodists journeyed to an overcast Saltford hoping to build on their win of the previous weekend - but found themselves on the wrong end of a big defeat.

The home skipper opted to bat first, but it was clear that the humid conditions might help the bowling side. Indeed, from the start, the ball was moving around in the heavy atmosphere, but opening batters Rob Bailey and Wes Taynton also came out swinging!

Teeing off from the first over, Bailey was quickly into his work and pummelling the boundaries, while the Methodists' bowlers tried to contain his pyrotechnics. Paul Evans bowled a controlled eight-over spell without much luck, but otherwise Rob and Wes threw the kitchen sink at anything sent their way - a hundred partnership in the 19th over followed five overs later by the 150, and then the double-ton after 30 overs.

Bailey (133) reached a 57th career century before Craig Eyles (1-62) finally snuck through the tiring batter's defences - the total now 220-1 in the 32nd over. But Taynton (100*) kept going and finally - after much frenetic running between the wickets - brought up his well deserved hundred with a sprinted two from the final ball of the innings.

After tea, the Methodists - chasing 285 to win - found things much more difficult! Aiden Taynton (2-22) - having missed out with the bat - bowled an excellent spell, backed up by Shinwari Musharaf (2-21), as the visitors lost their top-order inside eleven overs.

Saltford captain Jake Evans-Jones (3-14) and first-time bowler Liam Porter (2-22) then joined in, before Adam Rider finished the job - the hosts wrapping up a mammoth 201 run victory.
