THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club continue to go well in their first season in the Avalon Seniors League and maintained their unbeaten home record with an impressive 4-1 win against high flying Minehead and West Somerset.

Competition secretary Chris Appleton and Martyn Cuer headed the honours list with an outstanding 7&6 victory while Roger Parfitt with Phil Winsley and Malcolm Emery and Shaun Goodwin came in with fine 4&3 wins.

Captain Andy Flagg kept up his good start to the league season finishing two up alongside Allen Cheney while the one pair to lose, Paul Trigg and Paul Ellis, put up a great fight before ending one down.

There was disappointment, however, in the Seniors’ Rose Bowl adventure with the side going down 3-2 away to Oak Manor. Once again the team performed admirably and were so close to victory. The two Fosseway victories produced some excellent golf from the visitors with Dave Josham and Russell Beveridge and Parfitt and Gary Wilcox each winning their matches 6&5.

The other three games were tantalisingly close with Flagg and Cheney and Trigg and Cuer both losing 2&1 while Appleton and Emery lost on the final hole.

In the latest medal event Winsley topped Division 1 with a nett 65 followed by Trigg (68) and Cuer who beat Anthony Gregory on countback with nett 73. Trigg’s gross score of 77 was enough to see him lift the Rod Bruce Scratch Trophy. Bob Townsend topped Division 2 again with a nett 65 with Alan Jones second with nett 69 and Rob Wells third with nett 71.

After being postponed during wet February the Bill Lester Texas Scramble has now been played and it saw success for Goodwin and John Cooper who recorded a nett 60. One shot behind came Flagg and Cheney with Trigg and Malcolm Tucker third with nett 62.
