SOMERSET dominated their latest Rothesay County Championship Division One match against Sussex from start to finish at Taunton but at the end of a rain affected four days they had to settle for a draw.
Having lost their previous two games Somerset were looking for a strong performance and after choosing to bat first and losing two wickets for 46 this looked in doubt before Tom Lammonby and James Rew came together. The third wicket pair saw the total onto 170 when Lammonby was out for 73.
Rew took his score onto 86 when he was out which saw Archie Vaughan join Tom Abell. The fifth wicket pair saw up the first batting bonus point but on 297 Vaughan was out for 29.
Abell and Craig Overton then shared the partnership of the innings, adding 146 together to take the total onto 443 when Abell was out for 119, which came off 192 balls and included 12 fours and one 6.
Overton also went to his second century of the season before being out for 111 off 137 balls with 14 fours and two 6s after which Lewis Gregory and Jack Leach saw the total to 526 when the skipper was out for 35 and Somerset declared.
When Sussex replied they were bowled out for 253 in 71.1 overs in their first innings, Gregory, Overton, Lammonby and Migael Pretorius claiming two wickets apiece.
Following on 273 behind Sussex were staring defeat in the face at 113 for 7 when it started to rain and so it continued to do do until 5.50pm when the umpires finally called a halt to proceedings and abandoned play for the day and the game ended in a draw.
This result sees Somerset end the first six rounds of matches in sixth place in the table, 12 points behind leaders Nottinghamshire.
