TEAMS from Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club have been travelling the country to compete in the early matches of the 2026 season.
In late April the club’s Golf Croquet Level play 5+ team, captained by Ann Munton, travelled to Moreton-in-the-Marsh.
Ann said: ‘It was a lovely sunny day although there was a stiff breeze blowing. The wind didn’t quite blow our mallets away but it certainly blew a few hats off.
On paper Moreton were a stronger team and at lunch time the CPCC team were a couple of games behind. However, by the end of the day CPCC had bounced back and were victorious 9-7. Jonathan Flatt won all of his singles and succeeded in reducing his handicap.
It was a trip across the bridge to South Wales for the CPCC Short Croquet team on May 10th. Again it was a very windy day - and cold.
This team was captained by Mo Boys who said “The handicaps of the CPCC team were equally matched to our opponents which was demonstrated in the result - a draw.”
The CPCC team was David Richards (H2Peel), Simon Munton (H 3.5), Ann Munton (H 6) and John Rowly (H 10).
Short croquet is similar to Association Croquet but played on a half-sized lawn and it has its own rules. In Short Croquet the Handicap tells you how many extra shots you have and a ‘Peel’ means that you have to run your second ball through a hoop, in order, using your playing ball.
Glamorgan fielded two young, up and coming players, who were very competitive and won all their games. They will go far in their croquet careers. Both Ann and Simon Munton won 3 out of 4 games.
