After a seven-run defeat on the opening Saturday against Taunton Deane Seconds, Temple bounced back with a comfortable win against Burnham in the Shrubbery Somerset League Premier Division.
The ‘Seasiders’ won the toss and elected to field. Temple made a steady start, but with the loss of two wickets, Courtney Forrest (68) and Skipper Kevin Curtis (67) featured in a match-winning partnership of 115. On their dismissal, wickets fell at regular intervals, with Smith (3-57) the most successful Burnham bowler, but a score of 220-9 was satisfactory on a difficult wicket.
Burnham lost early wickets and were always behind the required run rate, despite B. House (50) holding the innings together. All five bowlers used by the visitors were economic, with Rob Head (4-43) and Miles Hackett (2-32), the most successful, giving a deserved 75-run victory.
Temple Second Xl won their opening game at Churchill by seven runs in a low-scoring game on a damp wicket, but came unstuck on Saturday at home against Cheddar Seconds.
In the next round of matches, the First Xl entertain Middlezoy, whilst the Seconds play Wedmore First Xl.
