The efforts of Timsbury Cricket Club stalwart and Life Member, Malcolm Tucker, were formally acknowledged by the club after its AGM, on Friday, 18th November. This was Malcolm’s fiftieth season of unbroken service to the club.
Club Chairman, Austin Sage, highlighted Malcolm’s magnificent contribution to the club in many capacities, particularly the Chairman’s role he held for some eleven seasons.
Malcolm also captained just about every team in the club, as well as being Fixture Secretary for many years before the advent of computers and the internet. He is frequently found in the scorebox these days, a responsibility he shares along with being club Press Officer.
Austin then presented Malcolm with a piece of engraved glassware from the club, as well as an autographed cricket bat from Somerset County Cricket Club where he has been a regular supporter and member for many seasons.
In response, Malcolm thanked all the club members for their attendance, Austin’s kind words and his presentation. He summarised many high points at the club during the last fifty years or so, but unquestionably his pinnacle being the club’s appearance at Lords, ten years ago, in the final of the National Village Knock-Out during his tenure as
Chairman.
Malcolm remarked on how much pleasure he still gets from watching the teams play, especially with so many younger players, products of the club’s thriving youth
section, making their way into senior sides.
Malcolm then received a hearty round of applause from the members, many of whom had represented the club at Lords ten seasons ago.
