Midsomer Norton slid to a disappointing defeat following a sub-par batting performance against table-topping Clevedon. Despite losing the toss, the day started well for the Norton bowlers, with Mitchell Turner clean bowling Crane with just the second ball of the game. When Hampshire swung one back through the gate and Turner grabbed a second, Norton were well on top at 37–3.

The early flurry of wickets brought the dangerous Kylander to the crease and he began to impose himself on the bowling with some powerful hitting. After some rebuilding, Pang lured Matthew Carpenter down the wicket to be stumped by Harvey. This was shortly followed by a moment of individual brilliance from Alex Lear, as he caught Will Carpenter napping with a direct hit at the non-striker's end, following some hesitation from the batsmen.

Kylander continued untroubled to fifty, before a moment of good fortune turned the game. The batsman survived a close decision and it was not an opportunity wasted. Together with Lambert, he turned the game around, progressing to 100 on an excellent batting track. He eventually fell for 120. Norton fought back to bowl Clevedon out for 252 and clinch what could be some crucial extra bonus points, Turner finishing with 2–47 from his overs.

With plenty of power in the batting line-up and the knowledge of a good track and fast outfield awaiting, Norton began with confidence. This was the only time the run chase looked likely to succeed as a mixture of accurate bowling and poor shot selection saw the Norton top order crumble with little resistance to Carpenter and Kylander. At 24–4, the damage was done.

James Harvey and Potter looked to continue their good work from the previous week and put together a patient stand, but when Harvey was bowled for sixteen, the lower order folded and Norton finished on 89–9, Andy Cox, unable to bat due to injury. The Captain, Nick Potter, was the only man to show any resistance and finished unbeaten on 33, making

batting look much easier than any other member of the side. Kylander finished with 3–39 to complete an impressive all-round performance.

This Saturday, Norton's First XI will look to return to winning ways and cement their second place in the league table as they take on Knowle at Withies Lane, hoping for some better application from the batting department. On the same day, the Second XI visit Calne, while at Somervale, the Third XI play Avonside. The following day, the Sunday Firsts welcome Bath to Withies Lane for a North Somerset Cricket League Conference fixture.
