Mendip missed out on a deserved away point on Saturday, with Wimborne sneaking in a deflected effort in the dying minutes to clinch victory.
The home side opened the scoring early on from a counter-attacking move down the right which left the Mendip defence out-numbered. Mendip were quick to respond, with Jasmine Scott putting the finishing touch to a great passing move from Charlene Vranch and Amy McGowan.
The visitors worked hard to create more first-half chances, but the Wimborne defence was well-drilled and kept the scores level until half-time.
The second half saw Mendip Captain, April Callow, switch to a more attacking formation, with Player of the Match, Cosima Burgess, pushing up into midfield. Despite the youngster’s excellent supporting play down the left, Mendip found it hard to create clear-cut chances, and the game looked to be petering out into a draw. However, Wimborne, and an unfortunate foot, struck to give the home side three points and leave Mendip empty-handed.
This Saturday, Mendip face their third consecutive away fixture when they travel to City of Bath (12 noon).
