Once again, the Ladies started the week on Tuesday, 25th June with a loss when they played Bath in a North Somerset League game at home. They continued their run of losses when they met Purnell Ladies on Wednesday, 26th June at their green in Paulton for their first game of the Fear Cup – they will now go on to play in the Fear Plate next week.
On Thursday, 27th June, we welcomed the Ladies of Prattens Bowls Club to our green for a Wild League match. The day was very overcast and after the first end, the rain started and continued getting steadily heavier throughout the game, but they were nine very wet, but happy, Norwest Ladies when they managed to win the game 10–2. Let's hope that's ended the losing run.
On Wednesday, 26th June, our Men went to meet Wyrall Park at their green for a Mid-Somerset League game. It was a hot evening and the green was playing extremely fast, which may have been part of the reason they lost 14–2. On Friday evening, we welcomed a team from Bath to our green for a Mixed Mid- Somerset League game.
It was a very enjoyable, friendly game which Norwest managed to win 10–2.
An early start on Sunday saw ten teams gather on our green for our annual Jim Cowley Memorial Trophy Mixed Fours Competition, which is generously sponsored by John Martin Coaches. The morning was overcast, but thankfully dry and it managed to warm up by the afternoon. Anne Woodham and her team of Val, Pat and Roy kept the players fed and watered with morning coffee and biscuits, a ham salad lunch, followed with fruit salad and in the afternoon, they supplied tea and cake. Thanks to you all – great job! Thanks also go to Rex and Mike, who organised the competition, Marion, our raffle queen, Ken, our barman, and Ayeisha and Chloe, our young helpers. The winners were the 'Grass-hoppers', Captained by Jo Dunford, second came the 'Mailbaggers', with Captain, Rod Ball. In third place were Steve Morton's team of 'Moulton's Finest' and fourth place was taken by a home team, the 'Chirpies', Captained by Jean Thomas. After the game, there was the presentation of the Jim Cowley Memorial Trophy by our sponsor, John Tamblyn, of John Martin Coaches, who we would like to thank for their continued support. It was a really enjoyable day which ended with hot dogs and a few drinks while catching up with all the bowling gossip.
