Mendip were made to work hard for their victory on Saturday, as relegation-threatened Devizes put up a brave fight.
After a prolonged spell of possession and territory, Mendip took a deserved lead through Jasmine Scott, who pounced on a penalty corner rebound to score. Mendip had numerous opportunities to extend their lead, with Charlene Vranch coming closest, but the visitors were defending well.
The second half saw Devizes pull level with a goal against the run of play after a quick break.
Mendip responded well, with Jess Smith and Sammy Chivers turning their opponents inside out with skillful runs down the right. Player of the Match, Hayley Young, then put Mendip back in front with a smartly taken shot on the reverse.
The home side kept things tight for the remaining minutes, with Captain, April Callow, dictating play from her holding role behind the midfield.
This Saturday, Mendip travel to champions-elect Bournemouth, hoping to continue their own winning streak (11.45 a.m.).
