After last weekend, Coleford go top of the Premier League, courtesy of Lance Cray’s only goal of the game away to Temple Cloud. Mells improved their position in the League, scoring six away to Purnell Sports Reserves, with the final score being 6–3. Radstock A is now up to fourth position, with a good 4–2 home win against bottom team, Welton Arsenal.
The featured match in the First Division was Clutton Reserves versus Victoria – and what a great advert for Mid-Somerset football this match proved to be, with both teams playing very well on a superb surface. It was always going to be an uphill battle for the home team after top scorer, Dan Linham, put the visitors in front in the first thirty seconds. The game went from end to end, with Clutton missing some good chances, and it was the away team who capitalised on a rare mistake by the home defence to let in Linham to score his second.
In the second half, Clutton took control of the game and missed some gilt-edged chances to score. As they were pushing forward to get in the game, they left Linham free to complete his hat-trick and Harry Ball completed the scoring, making it 4–0 to the away team. This scoreline didn’t do justice to the way the home team played.
In other games in the First Division, Baltonsborough consolidated their position at the top of the league with a 9–0 win away to High Littleton. Amongst the goals were Dean Perry (4), Luke Thomas, Tom Edwards, Daryl Care-Slade and Russ Tucker. Westhill Sports keep their unbeaten run intact, beating Belrose 4–1 at home and Chilcompton Reserves won at Pilton, 2–0.
Somer Valley stay top of the Second Division with a good home win against Glastonbury Reserves, 7–1. Jon West-Gaul, coming off the bench to bang in three, Ben Teall, Dean Haley (2) and Jamie Ford. Bath Villa stay in second place in the league, with a hard-fought home win, 3–2 against Saltford Reserves. The visitors’ scorers were Jamie Pattimore and Guy Turner. Peasedown Albion, with goals from Kris Seviour (3), Hayden Cambell (2), Scott Baker and Dan Mitchell beat Westhill Reserves, 7–1 to keep their unbeaten run going. Coleford Reserves move up the table, winning at home against Mells Reserves, 5–1. Amongst the goals were Andy Burns (2), Josh Parr, Jamie Olding and Jordon Phillips.
Evercreech beat Frome Town Sports at home, 4–2.
In the Third Division, Peasedown Albion Reserves stay top, but lose their first game of the season away to Farrington Reserves, 3–1, with Tom Owen netting their only goal. Draw specialists, Chilcompton United, shared the points at home to second in the league, Old Crown, 1–1. Chilcompton A and Purnell A played out an entertaining 4–4 draw, and Wessex scored six against Westfield A at home, with goals coming from Oliver Waiby (2), Luke Ayres (2), Lee Gooding and Vince Costanza.
In the cup, Frome Collegians continued to impress with a good 4–2 away win at Wells A. Westfield won away to Chew Magna Reserves, 5–0, and Timsbury Reserves, with their first home game of the season, thrashed Pilton Reserves, 8–0.
