A feat completed by only a few, Chilcompton Sports have attained both the Somerset County FA Senior Cup and are winners of the Somerset County League. The last local side to achieve this feat was over forty years ago, by Paulton Rovers back in the 1973/74 season.
Since the 1970s only three other Somerset teams have made this grade, with Robinsons DRG and Brislington back in the 1980s, and more recently, Bridgwater in 2008.
A squad of local men from Chilcompton and the surrounding area has seen them retain their crown as winners of the Somerset County League for the second time, with them needing to win their last game.
Win their last game they did, and with a seven-goal thriller, with goals from Ryan Gay (2) Jacob Sloggett (2), Jack Smith and Harvey Hadrill. On top of the League win on Saturday, they saw themselves in the Somerset County FA Senior Cup action on Tuesday night at Bishop Sutton.
Narrowly missing out the previous season, Tuesday saw a thrilling game against Clevedon Utd, a young and skilful team, with Chilcompton taking the edge with a one-goal winner in the 88th minute from Harvey Hadrill, which completed the League and Cup double.
