Timsbury Athletic beat local rivals, Peasedown Miners Welfare, for the third time this season, to remain at the top of the Somerset County League Division One East.
The visitors enjoyed plenty of possession, but it was Timsbury’s potency in front of goal which proved crucial, and they have already scored 48 goals in the league this season.
It took less than two minutes for Timsbury to take the lead, with the unfortunate Jordan Cross scoring in his own net from Ellis Hancock’s free-kick. Timsbury keeper, Jack Scrivens, conceded a free-kick just outside the penalty area, but Perry Lewis headed Dominic Barresi’s cross well wide.
Visiting keeper, Chris Allard, did well to scramble away a deflected Jesse Bishop shot, and then touched over a fine strike from Jem Lutwama. Cross was unlucky to see a crisp shot go just too high for the visitors, before Allard again came into action, saving from Lutwama and Rhys Cook.
The home side eventually went 2–0 ahead just before half-time, when Cook set up Jimmy Hailston, who struck a glorious shot into the top corner of the net.
Immediately after the interval, Ryan Saunders rattled the Timsbury bar with a thunderous drive, only for the home side to go straight up the other end and add a third goal through Cook. Lutwama showed great skill to volley home Cook’s cross, only for the goal to be ruled out for off-side.
Barresi then wasted a great chance to pull a goal back for the visitors, when he saw his penalty kick well-saved by Scrivens. Peasedown continued to see plenty of the ball, but Timsbury always looked more dangerous up-front, and the introduction of Lewis Blannin caused further problems for the Peasedown defence.
Ten minutes from full-time, Toby Neilson added a fourth for the home side after another set-up from Cook, and in stoppage time, the visitors struck the post as they looked for a consolation goal.
Man of the Match: Jem Lutwama, Timsbury Athletic.
