The swirling wind did not prevent both sides creating and missing chances, but Paulton should have taken the lead on the second minute, as Kailan Gould’s inswinging free kick from the right looked goal-bound and appeared to be cleared by a Rovers player.
Evesham saw a Brad Williams free kick blocked by the home defence, then Paulton had three chances as Joe Chandler headed narrowly over, followed by an Alex Grimshaw cross, headed wide by Will Hailston.
On 36 minutes, United should have been level as Lorcan Sheehan found Paul Fahy and on to Brad Williams, who, with only Andrew Hannah in the home goal to beat, inexplicably drove wide. Former Paulton Captain, Ash Williams, came on at half-time and he and Sheehan dominated the second period.
Evesham went ahead on 54 minutes, as Fahy chipped in from the left and the ball trickled past Hannah into the net. Fahy then had a goal disallowed, as Rovers responded with Elliott Gibbons, Hailston and Gould combining to bring a save from Kevin Sawyer.
Evesham went 2–0 ahead on seventy minutes when Sheehan’s left wing corner was turned in by left back, Nick Stanley. Rovers pressed with Hailston firing over the bar, but the visitors wrapped the game up with ten minutes left as substitute, Elliott Kennedy, broke down the right to score.
The First team were at Bishops Lydeard on Tuesday night as The Journal went to press in the Somerset Premier Cup and this Saturday are away at Mangotsfield United, kick-off at 3 p.m. then on the road again on 3rd October to face Bridgwater Town in the Southern League Cup, kick-off at 7.45 p.m.
