Midsomer Norton let the lead slip away as Avonmouth were victorious in a game of two halves.
Having most of the possession in the first half, Midsomer Norton dominated most aspects of the game, scoring four tries in the first forty minutes through Button (2), Sam Knight and Luke Murphy. Avonmouth bagged two tries in reply, but Norton looked certain to run away with the game.
The tables turned in the second half, as Avonmouth held onto the ball for long periods of time. Norton struggled to deal with this, and were unable to turn the ball over which allowed Avonmouth to run in four tries, bringing the scores level at 35-35. Avonmouth kept piling on the pressure, and Norton defended poorly compared to efforts in the first half.
Norton were desperately trying to regain possession of the ball in the dying seconds, but the referee awarded a penalty to Avonmouth in front of the posts as Norton were adjudged to be competing for the ball illegally. Avonmouth slotted the penalty to win the game in the last play, 38-35.
