PAULTON Rovers gained another valuable point and extended their unbeaten run to six games after a scoreless draw at home to Worcester Raiders in Division One South of the Southern League, writes Jon Green.
This was always was going to be a tough game to get anything from and Worcester started to show their class from the start. They moved the ball quickly, always having options for the man on the ball.
Their first chance came in the 5th minute with a shot which went high and wide. A header from a cross on the right also went high moments later.
Rovers struggled to maintain possession and laboured to get any momentum going forward. Worcester weren’t exactly dominating possession but were doing more with it when they had it. However, Rovers were defending stoutly and restricted Worcester to long range efforts with Archie Matthews only really tested once.
The first half hadn’t been a great spectacle but as time ticked on in the second half, Rovers began to grow into the game. They started to get forward more and in the 58th minute, won a freekick in a dangerous position. Although nothing came of it, Rovers were nearly ahead moments later when debutant, Tyller Davis-Whitlock and sent in a great cross that was met by Brandon Bak whose header crashed against the crossbar.
Both teams began to look for a winner and with Rovers frustrating Worcester, the home side began to play with more confidence. Davis-Whitlock went close in the 84th minute when he weaved around in the box before making some space to shoot. His shot though brushed the post and into the side netting.
Another late chance for Bak that was blocked when it seemed destined to go in.
Worcester certainly had the majority of the possession but arguably it was Rovers that went closest to scoring.
