Paulton were hit by a first half blast as Hungerford hit three goals to put a dent in Rovers’ survival challenge.

Alan O’Brien tried a speculative lob in the first minute that sailed over Rovers’ keeper, Ben John, and into the net. Paulton attempted to get back into the game with Jake Mawford and Nuno Felix both pressing the home defence. Felix had the best chance after 22 minutes, breaking through only to shoot wide.

Hungerford made it three on 31 minutes as captain, Ian Herring, threaded the ball to Jarvis whose excellent shot gave the keeper no chance.

From then on and well into the second half, Rovers battled well as Mawford dribbled through after 56 minutes and his low drive was cleared off the line. Jordan Ricketts had a shot blocked.

Jarvis got through the visitors’ defence with John turning his shot for a corner. In the 79th minute, John pulled an excellent save off Herring’s half volley.

With time added on Paulton reduced the deficit. As Felix crossed, Mullings was on hand to tuck the ball home.
