Paulton went down to yet another close defeat, but defeat it was in a game they battled for well, only to lack final fire power.
In an even first half, both Rovers wingers, Ben Bament and Kyle Tooze, were lively whilst Ian Traynor had a shot blocked as Merthyr pressed.
The visitors took the lead on 33 minutes, as Corey Jenkins cut in from the right and his cross was deflected by Paulton youngster, Alex Grimshaw, past Ben John in the home goal.
Paulton pressed hard in the opening stages of the second half, but the Martyrs made it 2-0 as Elliott Scorcher cut the ball back to Captain, Ashley Evans, who curled the ball home after 66 minutes.
Rovers pulled a goal back ten minutes later from a Tooze corner on the right, substitute Peter Trego, the Somerset cricket all rounder, won a header and Craig Allen followed up to head in.
