PAULTON Rovers moved to the top of the Premier Division in the Jewson Western League with a 7-2 home win over Ivybridge Town, writes Jon Green.
The home support didn’t have to wait long before the first goal came. In the 9th minute Kitan Jaiyeoba cut in from the left and hit an unstoppable shot past the keeper.
Chris Peck went close with a header a few minutes later before Brandon Bak got his first in the 19th minute. The ball initially hit the post but it came back to him and he knocked it into the empty net.
The third came in the 25th minute when Max Williams found Kitan lurking on the edge of the box again. He made space for a shot and hit it low into the bottom left corner.
Ivybridge hit back almost immediately when a skewed volley by Kai Burrell bounced up perfectly for Chris Harvey to head past James Smallcombe.
Undeterred, Rovers pushed again and as the half closed some brilliant footwork by Kitan led to Bak heading in at the near post.
The momentum continued early in the second half when Kitan completed his hattrick. Stan Wyatt fed Brandon Bak near the goal and he laid it off for Kitan to stroke the ball in from six yards out.
In the 54th minute, Rovers sixth goal came and Kitan was involved yet again. He broke clear and found Stan Wyatt. He side footed the ball goalwards and although the keeper got his hand to the ball he couldn’t keep it out.
A number of substitutions followed but it didn’t stop the pressure Rovers were applying. In the 81st minute Krystian Woods was brought down by the keeper. Bak stepped up to dispatch the penalty to grab his hattrick.
Ivybridge pulled another back when James Forrest hit a beautiful strike from 20 yards.
