SHEPTON Mallet Reserves have won the Mid Somerset Football League’s Clark Cup after beating Meadow Rangers following a penalty shootout in the final which was played at Radstock Town Football Club.

The game was very exciting and a close encounter developed with unbeaten Shepton Mallet Reserves on top early on but the Meadow Rangers’ defence holding firm.

However, midway through the first half Shepton took the lead with a well taken goal scored by Wilmott.

The halftime score saw Shepton one goal in front - but with very little to choose between the teams.

The second half started with some end to end football and Meadow managed to score an equaliser with Whittock netting during a goalmouth scramble.

After this both teams created scoring chances but neither side could get a winner in an intense game, so the tie went into the dreaded penalty shootout which Shepton managed to win 8-7 with a sudden death penalty.

A special mention should go to the Meadow Rangers goalkeeper Sam Mead who looked sharp and saved three Shepton penalties to keep his side in the tie. He did not deserve to be on the losing side.
