Our featured game from last Saturday was Westfield Reserves versus Coleford, and what a game it turned out to be. There was no quarter given by either team and lots of effort and skill put in by every player.
The game was won by a goal scored by one of the best players on view, Sam Gregory, who latched onto a through ball and slotted it past the advancing Coleford goalkeeper.
There were chances at both ends throughout the second half, but none were taken. Westfield, moving up a place in the league to fourth, with Coleford still topping the Premier League by a massive eight points. Second place Interhound got back to winning ways by beating bottom team, Welton Arsenal, 4–2. Mells had a good home win over Purnells, 4–3 and Temple Cloud played out a 2–2 home draw with Radstock A. Referee, Martin Veater, has said that these two teams were a credit to the league.
In the First Division, Victoria have put some daylight between them and the rest of the teams going away to Pilton, scoring 11–0. Amongst the goals were Chris Reed (5), Dan Linham (2), Harry Ball, Mathew Day, Jon Cook and Joe Everard. Second placed Baltonsborough lost ground, losing at home to Westhill Sports 2–1. Scoring for the visitors were Marc Traylor and Ben Grubb. Meadow Rangers continue to improve, securing a good home win, 3–2 against Chew Magna. Belrose record their second win of the season at home against Clutton Reserves, 4–3 and what a score at High Littleton, as they lost 8–5 to Chilcompton Reserves.
Peasedown Albion, with goals from Lee Gould (2), Scott Baker (3) and Stuart Noel, travelling away to Glastonbury Reserves in the Second Division, won 6–1, closing the gap on leaders, Somer Valley. Coleford Reserves are up to fourth, beating Frome Town Sports Reserves 4–0 at home. Evercreech are up to third, smashing seven past Westhill Sports Reserves. Pensford managed their second win of the season away to Saltford Reserves, 3–2. Their scorers were Tom Chambers, Chris Cavill and Mike Jones. Bath Villa just about got past the young Mells Reserves side, 3–1. Scorers were Lee Rudland, Louis Johnson and an own goal.
The outstanding result in the Third Division was Timsbury Reserves, who won at home over second placed team at the time, Old Crown, 5–2. Wessex are up to second with their draw away to Westfield A, and Purnell A and Farrington played out a 1–1 draw.
