There were no goals, but no lack of incident in Stockwood Green’s home draw with Timsbury Athletic in a game that was a good advert for the Somerset County League Division One East. The defences, in general, were on top, with clear chances at a premium.
In the opening stages, Ben Garland shot wide for the home side and Timsbury keeper, Ben Hancock, saved well from Stockwood’s leading scorer, Dan Salvage. The visitors were looking good going forward, but lacked precision with the final ball, Ellis Hancock coming closest with a stinging left foot shot from distance, which flashed past the Stockwood upright. For the home side, Jason Hawkins broke forward down the right, before shooting wide and then forced Hancock to save with another effort. A fluent move by Timsbury then ended with Jesse Bishop wide of the target.
Early in the second half the visitors created their best chance to date when Lewis Blannin burst through, but Stockwood keeper, Jon Rogers, saved well. At the other end, a quick counter attack ended with Mike Whittington heading wide. Ellis Hancock then towered above the Stockwood defence, but headed just wide from Ebner Heatley’s corner. Stockwood substitute, Dan Twomey, was also wide of the mark after a break down the right.
Timsbury at last looked as if they would break the deadlock when a Bishop free kick created a goal line melee, but somehow Stockwood survived and both sides had to settle for a well-earned point.
Star Man: Matt Brooks (Timsbury Athletic).
