Wells City Reserves 2

Timsbury Athletic suffered their first defeat since October in the Uhlsport Somerset County League Premier Division recently with a 2-0 defeat at home to Wells City Reserves.

It was a scrappy affair which Wells just about deserved to complete the double over the home side.

Wells captain Oliver Bryant created the first chance in the match shooting over the top . At the other end a dangerous cross from Rhys Cook was deflected for a corner and from the resultant kick Cook rattled the crossbar with a header. Nick Fowler shot wide from distance for the visitors before he gave Wells the lead.

Clever work on the left from Thomas Smith ended with an inch perfect centre that Fowler headed home. Cook was then too high with another effort and the same player was denied by Wells keeper Harrison Veale who advanced quickly from his line as Cook raced clear.

Chris Midgley had an early chance for Timsbury in the second half as he raced clear but once again Veale coped well with the situation.

A goalbound effort from Josh Swarbrick was blocked by the tenacious visitors’ defence before Rich Fowler twice came close to increasing the Wells lead. First he extracted a fine save from Timsbury keeper Ashton Tucker and then he hit the home post. Another effort from Cook was blocked by the Wells rearguard and Timsbury substitute Sam Gregory was wide with a speculative scissors kick. Tucker was again on his toes to deny Smith but with four minutes left on the clock there was nothing he could do to keep out Bryant’s clinical finish to wrap up the points for the visitors.
