A remarkable second half performance from Timsbury Athletic saw them score seven goals against bottom of the table, Castle Cary, who are still looking for their first point of the season in the Somerset County League Division One East. A goalless first half gave no indication of the fireworks to follow, which was highlighted by a headed hat-trick from the in-form Ellis Hancock.
Timsbury began with some neat football, but it was the visitors who had the best chance of the half when Lee Cox found himself unmarked in front of goal. His header lacked power, however, and was easily dealt with by home custodian, Ben Paisey. Timsbury’s two best opportunities fell to Ellis Hancock, who shot over having found space in the box and Kieran Prince, who was well wide after good inter-play between Hancock and Joe Parker.
After just seven minutes of the second half, Timsbury were three up. Immediately after the restart, a fine cross from Parker was converted by Prince and Parker himself then added a second with a superb left foot strike. Another goalbound effort from Parker was blocked by Alex Gregory, before Hancock grabbed the first of his three goals soaring high to head past Matt Record in the Cary goal.
The visitors then struck back with a well constructed goal of their own, Cox volleying home a Gregory free-kick. There was no stopping the home side and after Parker had been denied by Record, Hancock made it 4–1 after heading home Ross Padfield’s inch perfect cross. The same duo then combined again for Hancock’s hat-trick header and there was still only 21 minutes of the second half gone. Jimmy Hailston made it 6–1 with a well struck effort from distance before a defiant Cox struck the post for Cary. Right on time, substitute, Mark Hancock, added Timsbury’s seventh to cap an exhilarating second half display.
