TIMSBURY U11s 3 WELLS CITY U11s 4

With the driving rain and wind, the Timsbury U11s game against Wells City U11s was always going to be a turbulent match.

With both teams starting strong, Timsbury seemed to have the edge, with three great shots denied by the post within the first ten minutes of the game. Wells soon fought back, playing a strong midfield, and quickly won a penalty, which was taken beautifully, leaving the Timsbury goalkeeper, Tom Jackson, no chance.

After the first goal, Timsbury kept up the attack, with great passing play from Owen and central midfielder, Oakley. Timsbury defended well, with their goalkeeper making fantastic saves to deny Wells a second goal.

Halfway through the first half, Timsbury Manager, Adam Bean, made several changes, due to the match being a friendly. Wells were straight on the attack after the substitution, swiftly in Timsbury’s box, slotting it in the back of the net.

Yet again, Timsbury were slipping, making very silly errors and letting Wells attack. It wasn’t long before Wells took their opportunities and scored again. Whether it was the weather, or just poor control by the Timsbury midfield and defence, Wells went on to score another two goals in quick succession, with the fourth scored just before the half-time whistle. The whistle was welcomed by a disappointed Timsbury side.

The rain eased off during half-time, and the break gave the Timsbury side renewed energy and enthusiasm. As soon as the whistle was blown for the second half, a re-arranged Timsbury side fought back with some fantastic passing, with George helping to drive the ball forward down the left-hand side, working with an attacking midfield.

Wells seemed overwhelmed from the off. Timsbury were persistent at attacking because they almost scored, leaving Wells players on the ground.

Oakley and Owen were working well together, creating an opportunity for Oakley, and he took it well, pulling one back for Timsbury, making the score 4-1.

Soon after the goal, Wells players were on their toes, trying their hardest to stop Timsbury’s attack getting any further, but Lewis Maggs sprinted across the pitch like no-one was trying to tackle him, and managed to slot it through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Wells tried several times to drive forward on the counter-attack, but were met by a solid Timsbury defence. With Gerard helping George to keep the back steady and drive the ball forward, he released Owen through the middle, so Owen could almost make the game a turnaround with a third goal.

Timsbury manager, Adam Bean, and coaches, Andy Woolford and Mark Jackson, were, overall, pleased with their team’s performance.

Andy Woolford said: “After the match, I thought the lads played with real heart and passion against a determined team, who gave a little in the first half.

However, with a change in tactics in the second half, we exploited their weakness and brought ourselves back into the game. It was a real shame the game ended when it did, as the equaliser was imminent. Great game to watch, but nerve-wracking to coach!”
