WELTON Rovers went down 4-0 to Nailsea United in the first division of the Jewson Western League at West Clews where a competitive first‑half showing ultimately gave way to a second‑half performance undone by United’s clinical finishing, writes Bob Allard.

The visitors began with real intent, forcing four corners in quick succession and immediately putting Welton under pressure. Joe Berry weaved through the defence before his effort was cleared, while Charlie Parsons went close with a strike that flashed past the far post.

Despite the early onslaught, debutant goalkeeper Jude Brown impressed, producing a smart low save to keep Nailsea at bay. Welton responded with a promising move as captain Will Ford broke through the Nailsea back line, only to be denied at the crucial moment.

However, the breakthrough arrived in the 35th minute. A powerful long‑range effort from Matt Long was superbly tipped onto the post by Brown, but the rebound fell kindly for Berry, who curled his finish into the far corner to give Nailsea the lead.

It was a harsh blow for Welton, who had defended resolutely throughout the half.

The hosts began the second half brightly. A corner from Brian Moding found Reuben Hobbs, whose towering header flew inches wide of the upright. Welton continued to press, but that decisive touch in front of goal remained elusive.

Nailsea, dangerous on the counter, doubled their advantage on the hour when Berry capitalised on a loose ball and fired into the corner. Five minutes later he completed his hat‑trick with a superb strike from distance.

The visitors sealed the result in the 71st minute when Dylan Whittle reacted quickest to a close‑range scramble, poking home to make it four and put the game beyond Welton. Despite a spirited effort, Welton were left to reflect on another frustrating afternoon.
