WELTON Rovers gained their first point of the season in a 1-1 home draw against Hengrove Athletic in Division One of the Jewson Western Football League.

Welton pressed early on playing some neat attractive football. The visitors looked sharp on the break and Bradley Skidmore was put through but his final effort went wide of the target.

A move down the right from Hengrove saw the ball fall to the lively Sonny Parker who thumped his effort into the roof of the Welton net after only eight minutes.

Welton equalised on 15 minutes; a worldly pass out of defence from Chris Pile split the visitors defence and Lewis Russell raced in between the defenders, and with keeper Chris Blammon racing out to close him down, he calmly scooped the ball over Blammon and it fell into the Hengrove net.

Both sides created scoring chances in the remainder of the game but in the end the points were shared.
