There was some great scoring within Division One’s recent Saturday Stableford. Lee Bruton had a great day with forty points, followed closely in second by Paul Thomas on 39 points, beating Andy Bayley into third on countback. What a great score from Nick Farrar in Division Two to finish top, with an outstanding score of 47 points followed in second place by Jon Cox, with a good 44 points, beating John Marquiss into third place on count back.

Congratulations to Ray Guthrie, who, after many years of trying, achieved his first hole- in-one on the short seventeenth. Ray commented on his excellent shot which included backspin into the hole.

Dave Harvey took advantage of the drier conditions by winning Division One’s Sunday Stableford, with a great score of 46 points. Steve Coles was second with 43 points and Matt Lefeurve in third, with forty points. There was good scoring in Division Two, with Steve Brixey on top with 42 points, beating Lee Matthews into second place on count back and Simon Kidd taking third place with forty points.

Seniors

With the whole course open apart from the short twelve hole, it was great to play in dry weather, despite the chilly wind. The Seniors’ field was down on numbers, with some away in Europe. Good scoring was achieved by many pairings with it being close for the top prizes. But top honours went to Nigel Savage and Geoff Potts, with an outstanding 42 points.

Ladies

The Ladies’ March Coppers (new ladies to golf or higher handicapped ladies) was held on Tuesday 15th March. The fun Competition for the Duchy course players was an American Greensomes Stableford on the first thirteen holes.

Six Coppers with their helpers set off on this popular format. While they were enjoying a lovely spring morning, the remaining Coppers played on the Manor Course. The winners of the Greensomes Competition were Lally Gibson and Maureen Charlton with 23 points and second were Sandra Hares and Maureen Tayler, with 21 points.

Thursday’s Ladies morning on 17th March was a Three Game Challenge. Seventeen pairs took part in a medley of formats. The first six holes were Greensomes, 7th to 12th holes were Foursomes, with the final six holes being Texas Scramble. The winning pair were Maureen Charlton and Pauline Young with 39 points (on count back), second were Min Woodward and Wendy Butt, also with 39 points, (on count back), third were June Symonds and Mary Hobbs with 37 points, fourth were Lo Dallocco and Jacqui Gregory, with 36 points, and fifth were Karen Wills and Gill Seaward, with 35 points.
